It is the longest beach transfer from LIR. A private driver takes you the whole way down the Nicoya Peninsula to your hotel or surf house.

Down the length of the Nicoya Peninsula

The car follows Route 21 south through Santa Cruz and Nicoya, then continues along the gulf side of the peninsula past Jicaral to Paquera. From there the road runs through Tambor to Cóbano, the last real town, before dropping to the Pacific at Santa Teresa.

The main route is paved most of the way. Around Santa Teresa and Mal País, many roads are still gravel, dusty in the dry months and muddy in the rains. The provider plans the vehicle accordingly.

One long beach road

Santa Teresa is strung out along a single road parallel to the beach, with Playa Carmen and Mal País to the south and quieter Playa Hermosa and Manzanillo to the north. Surf schools, yoga studios, cafés and boutique hotels line it, and many guesthouses sit up the hill on steep side lanes.

Send a map pin and your host's number when booking. Street addresses barely exist here.

The area draws surfers, yoga students and remote workers who often stay for weeks. Dry-season dust is part of daily life along the main road.

Before you book

Flight timing
With up to five hours of driving, a landing before about noon lets you arrive before dark.
Boards and bags
Declare surfboards with their length. Long stays often mean extra luggage, so consider a minivan.
A break on the way
A short stop for food or fuel can be agreed in advance; Paquera and Cóbano are natural points.
