Distance
40 km
Typical drive
66–83 min

The car takes you to the visitor entrance of the Cham temple site.

Through the countryside to the Cham valley

Unlike the beach routes, this drive heads inland. After the city suburbs the road crosses rice-growing plains and small market towns, then runs towards a ring of green hills. The final part is on smaller country roads, which explains why the drive takes over an hour for 40 km.

The sanctuary sits in a valley overlooked by the peak locally called Cat's Tooth Mountain.

What you will see at My Son

My Son is a group of Hindu temple towers built by the Champa kingdom between roughly the 4th and 13th centuries, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The red-brick towers are decorated with carvings of deities and dancers.

Many structures were damaged during the war, and restoration work continues. The site is spread out in the forest: from the entrance, visitors usually take an electric shuttle part of the way and then walk between the temple groups.

A typical visit day

  1. Early start

Arrive soon after opening, when the light is soft and the heat and crowds are lower.

  2. At the entrance

Buy your entry ticket, which is separate from the transfer, and board the shuttle into the valley.

  3. Exploring the temples

Allow around two hours for the main groups and the small exhibition. Wear good shoes and bring water and a hat.

  4. Onward journey

Most visitors continue to Hoi An afterwards. Book that ride separately with a pickup time from the site.
