Arriving at Da Nang Airport
Da Nang International Airport lies right next to the city centre, a short drive from the Han River and the long beach strip on the eastern side of the city.
Your driver meets you in the arrivals area with a name sign. Exactly where to stand is arranged directly between you and the local transfer company by phone or WhatsApp, so share your flight number when booking. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the actual landing time and the agreed price stays the same. Many flights from South Korea, Singapore and Australia land late in the evening, when a pre-booked car is especially welcome.
Where travellers go from DAD
- Hoi An and Cua Dai Beach
- Hoi An is 28 km south, around 48–60 minutes by car. The lantern-lit Ancient Town is mostly closed to cars, so drivers stop at the edge or at your hotel. Cua Dai Beach, the resort strip east of town where the Thu Bon River meets the sea, takes about the same time.
- Non Nuoc Beach and the Marble Mountains
- The closest resort area, 16 km away and usually reached in 30–38 minutes, with the limestone Marble Mountains just inland.
- Ba Na Hills
- A 37–47 minute drive west to the cable car base station. The Golden Bridge and the French-style village are on the summit, reached only by cable car with a separate ticket.
- Lang Co
- A lagoon-and-beach resort area just north of the Hai Van tunnel, around an hour from the airport, popular with couples and golfers.
- Hue
- The former imperial capital, 94 km north. The drive takes roughly two and a quarter to two and three quarter hours, through the Hai Van tunnel or, on request, over the Hai Van Pass.
- My Son Sanctuary
- The Cham temple ruins in a jungle valley inland from Hoi An, about 66–83 minutes from the airport. Most visitors go early in the morning before the heat builds.
How long the drives take
Drive times from DAD fall into three groups. Non Nuoc, Hoi An and Cua Dai, on the coast south of the city, are between half an hour and an hour away on a flat beach road. Ba Na Hills is also under an hour, with a final climb to the base station.
Lang Co and My Son take about an hour to an hour and a half. Hue is the only long ride, at well over two hours, and is often combined with a few nights in the old capital before heading south to Hoi An.
Choosing a vehicle
- Private car
- Suits one to three passengers with standard suitcases, and is the simplest option for short hops to Non Nuoc or Hoi An.
- Minivan
- Takes up to about seven passengers, or fewer with large luggage. Families and groups heading to Hue or Lang Co often prefer the extra room.
- Child seats and equipment
- Request child seats when booking, and declare golf bags or diving gear so a suitable vehicle is sent.
Seasons in central Vietnam
The dry, sunny months from roughly February to August are the main beach season, with the hottest weeks in June and July.
From about September to December, central Vietnam has its rainy season, and typhoons can affect the coast, mostly in October and November. Heavy rain can flood low parts of Hoi An's Ancient Town and slow the drive north towards Hue, so allow extra time on travel days. The Lunar New Year period also brings busy arrival peaks.
