The car stops at the base station. The summit itself is reached only by cable car, and those tickets are bought separately.

From the airport to the foot of the mountain

The road heads west out of Da Nang, away from the coast, through suburbs and then open countryside. The final kilometres climb gently through the foothills of the Truong Son range to the large car park and the station building at the bottom of the cable car.

This is a short, straightforward drive. Delays usually come only from city traffic at rush hour or from the queue of coaches arriving at the base station in the morning.

What Ba Na Hills is

Ba Na Hills is a mountaintop resort and theme park built around a former French hill station, at roughly 1,400 metres above sea level. The best-known sight is the Golden Bridge, a walkway held up by two giant stone-look hands. Up top there is also a French-style village, gardens, pagodas and an indoor amusement area.

The cable cars climb several kilometres from the base station and are part of the experience in themselves. On clear mornings you see the coast and the forest below.

Practical points before you go up

Tickets
Cable car and entry tickets are separate from your transfer and are bought at the station or in advance.
Bring a layer
The summit is noticeably cooler than the coast and often misty. A light jacket helps even in summer.
Staying overnight on top
If you have booked a hotel on the summit, you still ride the cable car. Ask your hotel how luggage is handled from the base station.
Morning crowds
Day visitors arrive in waves from mid-morning. Arriving early means shorter queues for the cable car.

Returning from the base station

If you are flying out the same day, agree a pickup time at the base station that leaves a comfortable margin, because the queue to come down in the late afternoon can be long. For an international flight, be at the base station car park about four hours before departure: under an hour on the road, three hours at the airport and time for any delay.
