What to expect on the drive to Cua Dai

The route follows the beach road south from Da Nang, past Non Nuoc and the Marble Mountains, and continues through the low coastal plain towards the mouth of the Thu Bon River. Rather than entering Hoi An's centre, it heads for the shore east of town.

It is an easy, flat drive. Traffic is heaviest when leaving Da Nang at rush hour.

About the beach

Cua Dai is where the Thu Bon River meets the South China Sea, a few kilometres from the Ancient Town. Resorts and villas line the road behind the beach, with more space between them than in the city.

Coastal erosion has narrowed sections of the beach in recent years, and some resorts have rebuilt their sea frontage. If a wide stretch of sand matters to you, check recent photos of your hotel's own beach before booking.

Good to know when staying here

Cham Islands boats
Boats to the Cham Islands, popular for snorkelling and diving, leave from the Cua Dai area. Declare dive gear when booking your airport transfer.
Getting into Hoi An
The Ancient Town is a short ride or a cycle away. Many resorts run their own shuttle or lend bicycles.
Families
Resorts here tend to have larger grounds and pools. Request child seats and choose a minivan if you have a pushchair.

Leaving for the airport

Ask your resort to schedule the pickup at reception. For an international departure, leave Cua Dai about four hours before your flight, which allows an hour on the road and three at the airport. In the rainy season add a further half hour.
