The town crowns a hill above the middle Tiber valley, south of Perugia, and is a favourite base for longer villa stays.

How the drive to Todi goes

From the airport the car joins the E45, the toll-free expressway that follows the Tiber south. You pass Torgiano, a wine town at the meeting of the Tiber and Chiascio, and then Deruta with its ceramic workshops along the old road. After the Todi exit the road climbs in curves to the town.

The E45 has occasional roadworks; when it is clear, the trip stays at the lower end of the time range.

Todi itself and the villas around it

The heart of Todi is Piazza del Popolo, one of the best-preserved medieval squares in central Italy, surrounded by civic palaces and the cathedral. Below the walls stands the Renaissance church of Santa Maria della Consolazione. The historic centre has limited-traffic rules, so drop-off is at your hotel where allowed or at the nearest permitted point; a lift connects a car park below the centre with the upper town.

Many visitors do not stay in town at all, but in restored farmhouses scattered across the surrounding hills. Their access roads can be gravel and poorly signed, so send the property's own directions.

Can the driver find a farmhouse outside Todi?

Yes, with the full address and ideally GPS coordinates or the owner's directions. Some properties are at the end of unpaved roads.

Is a supermarket stop possible?

Often, if requested when booking. The provider confirms it beforehand together with any change in price.
