Twenty minutes along the SS75

The route is short and simple: the SS75 dual carriageway runs south-east from the airport, passes below Assisi and reaches the Spello exit before Foligno. From there it is a brief climb to the Roman gate of Porta Consolare.

On a clear day you see Assisi's basilica on the left and Spello's terraces of olive trees ahead long before you get there.

A town best explored on foot

Spello's main street climbs steeply from Porta Consolare through the centre, lined with flower-filled balconies, small trattorias and the church of Santa Maria Maggiore with Pinturicchio's frescoes. The historic centre has traffic restrictions and many lanes are too narrow for cars.
