The resort lies in a sheltered bay well below the main highway, reached by a winding side road. Your driver collects you in the arrivals area and takes you down to your hotel, which is easier than getting off a bus at the junction above.

Crossing Heraklion and turning off to the bay

Although Agia Pelagia is close, the airport is on the east side of Heraklion and the resort on the west, so the first part of the drive passes the city on the bypass. After that the highway climbs into the hills towards Rethymno.

The Agia Pelagia turn-off comes a few kilometres later. From there a narrow road with sharp bends descends to the village, and the bay opens up below. The Ligaria cove has its own exit a little earlier.

A resort built on the slopes

Agia Pelagia is shaped like an amphitheatre around its main beach, with smaller coves such as Mononaftis and Psaromoura nearby. Many hotels and apartments are on steep streets above the water, and some large resorts have their own access roads.

The clear, calm water makes the area popular with snorkellers, divers and couples looking for a quieter base close to Heraklion.
