The final part of the journey climbs out of Fethiye and winds through Ovacık and Hisarönü before descending to the lagoon, so it is a slower drive than the distance suggests.

The route from DLM to Ölüdeniz, step by step

  1. Dalaman to Göcek Tunnel

From the airport the driver joins the D400 eastbound and passes through the Göcek Tunnel. The toll is part of the agreed price.

  2. Around Fethiye

The road skirts the edge of Fethiye rather than going through the harbour, then turns south towards the hills.

  3. Up through Ovacık and Hisarönü

The road climbs into the busy holiday villages of Ovacık and Hisarönü. In the evening, parts of the Hisarönü strip are kept for pedestrians, so drivers may use the back road.

  4. Down to the lagoon

A short, steep section with hairpin bends brings you down to Ölüdeniz and the Belcekız beachfront.

Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü or Ovacık: where is your hotel?

Many holidaymakers who say they are going to Ölüdeniz actually stay up the hill in Hisarönü or Ovacık, which have more apartments, bars and family hotels. Those are reached ten to fifteen minutes before the beach.

In Ölüdeniz itself, hotels sit behind the Belcekız beach, along the road to the lagoon and on the slopes above. The promenade along the beach is largely for walking, so the drop-off is at the nearest road access. Give the full hotel name when booking, as several names are similar.

Paragliding, Butterfly Valley and luggage

Ölüdeniz is famous for tandem paragliding from Babadağ, and boats leave the beach for Butterfly Valley and the bays along the coast. None of this needs special luggage, but if you bring your own paragliding wing or diving equipment, declare it when booking so a vehicle with enough space is sent.

Families with buggies should note that the hotels on the slopes can involve steps and steep driveways.
