Although Kalkan is in Antalya province, most visitors arrive via Dalaman, which is the shorter airport transfer. The town is built on a steep hillside above a small harbour, and most stays are in villas with private pools.

The drive along the D400 to Kalkan

The route follows the D400 east through the Göcek Tunnel (the toll is part of your price) and past Fethiye without entering the centre. Beyond Fethiye the highway turns inland through the fertile Eşen valley, with its greenhouses and farm villages, signposted towards Kaş.

After the turn-offs for Xanthos and Patara, the road climbs back towards the coast and runs high above the sea before descending into Kalkan. This last section has many bends, so travellers who get carsick may prefer a front seat.

Villas, steep lanes and the old town

Kalkan's old town has steep, narrow lanes around the harbour, and parts of it cannot be reached by a full-size vehicle. In those cases the driver stops at the nearest accessible point, and villa staff or owners often meet guests there.

Many villas are spread across the hillsides of Kalamar and Kışla and along the roads above the town. Send the exact villa name, address or map pin, and any access notes from your owner, when booking.

Who stays in Kalkan

Couples and villa groups
Kalkan is popular with couples and with families or friends sharing a villa. A minivan suits groups of up to seven with luggage.
Beach and boat days
The town has small beach clubs and swimming platforms, while long sandy Patara beach is a short drive back along the route.
Kaş and the Lycian coast
Kaş is further east along the coast road. If you split your stay between Kalkan and Kaş, book each transfer separately.

Frequently asked questions

Should I fly to Dalaman or Antalya for Kalkan?

Dalaman is usually the better choice, with a drive of about 105–132 minutes. From Antalya Airport the journey is considerably longer.

Can the car reach my villa in Kalkan?

Most villas on the hillside roads have car access, but some old-town properties do not. Share your address and the owner's access notes so the driver can plan the closest drop-off.

Does the driver stop at a supermarket on the way?

The ride is private, and a short stop can often be agreed with the driver if it is mentioned when booking. Kalkan itself has supermarkets for villa supplies.

Is the road to Kalkan safe at night?

The D400 is a main highway used by transfers at all hours. The final winding section is driven daily by local drivers who know it well.

Is the price higher in peak summer?

The price for your date, time and vehicle is shown before booking. Once agreed, it does not change for traffic or flight delays.
