Pattaya is the easiest beach destination to reach from this airport, because the motorway to the eastern seaboard starts almost at the airport perimeter. You can be at the sea in well under two hours.
A motorway almost all the way
From Suvarnabhumi the car joins Motorway 7, a toll motorway that runs south-east past Chonburi and Si Racha towards Pattaya. There are no city streets to cross and no need to go anywhere near central Bangkok.
The slow part is usually the last few kilometres. Once the car leaves the motorway, Sukhumvit Road and the streets down to the beach can be congested, especially in the evening and on weekends.
Which part of Pattaya are you staying in?
- Central Pattaya
- Beach Road and Second Road, with shopping malls, restaurants and Walking Street at the southern end.
- Naklua and Wong Amat
- North of the centre, with larger resorts, condo towers and a calmer beach often chosen by families.
- Jomtien
- South of the hill at Pratumnak, a long beach popular with long-stay visitors and Scandinavian families.
- Na Jomtien and Bang Saray
- Further south still, quieter coast with pool villas and resorts. Allow extra time beyond the city centre.
Drop-off and practical details
Walking Street, at the southern end of Pattaya Beach, is closed to vehicles in the evening, so hotels next to it are reached by the nearest open road. Many visitors stay in condo buildings; give the building name and unit address when booking.
For families, Pattaya's water parks and attractions make it a favourite, and child seats can be requested in advance. Golf bags should be declared, as several courses lie inland from the city.
