Up from the plains to the Khorat Plateau
From the airport the route runs north around Bangkok and joins the main highway towards Saraburi. After Saraburi it becomes Mittraphap Road, the main road to the north-east, which climbs gradually through hills onto the Khorat Plateau.
This highway carries many lorries, and on Friday evenings and holiday weekends a lot of Bangkok residents head for Khao Yai at the same time. Mid-week arrivals usually see a smoother ride.
Where Khao Yai's hotels are
Pak Chong town sits on the highway and has the railway station, markets and simpler hotels. Most resorts, though, are along Thanarat Road, which leads south from town towards the park's northern gate, and on side roads nearby.
This area mixes resort hotels, glamping sites, farm stays, cafés and vineyards. Distances along Thanarat Road add up, so a hotel near the park gate can be a good half hour beyond the town centre. Please give the exact hotel address.
