Puerto Calero is a small marina village on the south-east coast, a few kilometres west of Puerto del Carmen. The driver brings you to your hotel, apartment or villa by the harbour, with no other passengers on board.

How do you get from Lanzarote Airport to Puerto Calero?

The car heads west on the LZ-2, the island's main southern road, and passes the exits for Puerto del Carmen instead of driving along that resort's seafront. Beyond them a side road turns off towards the coast and descends through dark lava fields to the harbour.

It is a straightforward drive on good roads, with no tolls. Because the village sits below the main road, you only see the marina and the masts once you are almost there.

A marina village rather than a beach resort

Puerto Calero belongs to the municipality of Yaiza and grew around a marina that opened in the mid-1980s. Today the harbour holds several hundred berths, including space for large yachts, and the quayside is lined with restaurants, cafés and small shops.

The atmosphere is quieter and more upmarket than in neighbouring Puerto del Carmen. There is no long sandy beach in the village itself; guests come for the harbour setting, boat trips and calm evenings by the water. A coastal footpath links it with Puerto del Carmen for those who want livelier streets within walking distance.

Who chooses Puerto Calero

Sailors and yacht crews
Crews joining a boat often arrive with duffel bags and provisions. Mention the berth or the marina office as the drop-off so the driver stops as close to the pontoons as cars are allowed.
Boat-trip and excursion fans
Catamaran cruises and a tourist submarine leave from the harbour, so many day trips start right outside the door.
Couples and villa guests
Holiday homes on the slopes above the marina are popular for longer winter stays. Give the full street address, as the residential roads are not signposted from the main road.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Puerto Calero from Lanzarote Airport?

It is 16 km by road, which typically takes 19–24 minutes. The route stays on the LZ-2 past Puerto del Carmen before dropping down to the marina.

What does the transfer to Puerto Calero cost?

Indicatively around €30–40 for a car with up to three passengers and €40–55 for a minivan for up to about seven. You see the exact price before booking and it stays the same on the day.

Is Puerto Calero part of Puerto del Carmen?

No. It is a separate village a few kilometres to the west, in the municipality of Yaiza. The two are connected by a coastal walking path, but the car route reaches Puerto Calero directly from the main road.

Can we be dropped at our yacht in the marina?

The driver takes you to the nearest point that vehicles can reach on the quayside. Add the berth or pontoon details when booking so the local provider knows where to go.

We are bringing a lot of sailing gear. Which vehicle should we book?

Large kit bags, provisions or several suitcases fit better in a minivan. Declare the luggage when booking so a vehicle with enough room is sent.
