Sagres is a small, windswept town near the south-western tip of mainland Europe, close to Cabo de São Vicente. It attracts surfers, walkers and travellers looking for wild coast rather than busy resorts.

How do you get from Faro Airport to Sagres?

The first part is the A22 motorway across the whole central Algarve to its western end at Lagos, toll-free since 2025. From there the road continues as the EN125 to Vila do Bispo, where the N268 branches south over open, almost treeless land to Sagres.

The last stretch is a normal two-lane road with little lighting at night, which is one reason a private driver who knows the area is welcome after a late landing.

Surf, wind and the Costa Vicentina

Sagres has beaches on both the sheltered south side and the exposed west coast, and surf schools and camps are spread across the area. Much of the surrounding coast is protected as part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast natural park.

If you bring surfboards, wetsuits or bicycles, list them when you book so the provider sends a vehicle with enough room. Boards in bags usually need a minivan or a vehicle with a roof rack.
