The drive to Lagos along the A22
This is one of the longest transfers in the Algarve, but nearly all of it is motorway. The A22 runs from the airport past Albufeira, Lagoa and Portimão and ends just outside Lagos, so the driving is steady and, since 2025, free of tolls. Only the last few kilometres run through town traffic.
It usually makes sense to rest on the way only with small children; most travellers prefer to go straight through and arrive in a little over an hour.
