This is the closest hotel area to DXB and the oldest part of the city, spread along both banks of Dubai Creek. Streets are dense and some lanes are narrow, so the hotel name and address matter more here than anywhere else in Dubai.
What is Bur Dubai like?
Bur Dubai and Deira face each other across Dubai Creek. Bur Dubai has the Al Fahidi historical quarter with its wind-tower houses, the textile souk and the abra stations; Deira, on the airport side, has the gold and spice souks and busy commercial streets.
Hotels range from small budget properties and serviced apartments to large Creek-side hotels. Many visitors stay here for the souks, for business, or because they visit family, and the area has a lively evening street life that the newer districts lack.
How does the drive from DXB go?
The airport is in Al Garhoud, right next to Deira, so the trip is short. For Bur Dubai the car crosses the Creek on one of the main bridges; for Deira hotels it often stays on the airport side.
At rush hour the bridges and the roads around them slow down, which is why the drive can stretch beyond 25 minutes in the evening. Late at night it is usually quicker.
Is a private transfer worth it for such a short trip?
For a single traveller with hand luggage a city taxi is a reasonable option. A private transfer makes more sense for families, groups who need a minivan, travellers with child seats, and anyone landing late who prefers to walk straight to a waiting driver.
HotelTaxi books the ride with a local Dubai transfer company, and the price is fixed before you travel. You can book on the website or on WhatsApp.
Going back to DXB from old Dubai
Even though the airport is close, check-in, security and passport control at DXB can be slow at peak times. Plan the pickup about 3.5 hours before an international departure, and a little earlier on weekday evenings when the Creek crossings are busy.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the drive from Dubai Airport to Bur Dubai?
Usually 20–25 minutes for the 16 km. In evening rush hour the bridges over the Creek can add some time.
Is Deira closer to the airport than Bur Dubai?
Yes. Deira is on the same side of the Creek as the airport, so many Deira hotels are reached in less time than Bur Dubai.
Can the driver reach hotels in the old lanes?
The driver gets as close as the streets allow. In a few narrow lanes the last short stretch is on foot, so a precise address helps.
Can I book a minivan for a family?
Yes. A minivan carries up to around seven passengers with luggage, and child seats can be requested when booking.
