Mopa is the newer of Goa's two airports. It sits inland on a plateau in Pernem, the northernmost part of the state close to the Maharashtra border, so it is the natural arrival point for the beaches between Arambol and Candolim.
Transfers from this airport
Mopa or Dabolim: which Goa airport is yours?
Goa has two international airports, and flights are often simply labelled "Goa". Check the airport code on your ticket: GOX is Mopa in the north, GOI is Dabolim near Vasco da Gama in the south-centre. They are far apart, and booking a transfer from the wrong one is the most common Goa arrival mistake.
Mopa is the better arrival point for North Goa: Pernem's beaches (Arambol, Mandrem, Ashwem, Morjim) and Bardez (Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, Candolim). From Mopa you never cross the Mandovi river or drive through Panaji. Dabolim is the better choice for Colva, Benaulim, Cavelossim and Palolem in the south.
Arriving at Mopa Airport
Mopa has a single modern terminal handling international and domestic flights. After immigration, baggage claim and customs you come out into the arrivals area, where your driver waits at the meeting point with a name sign. The exact spot is agreed with the local provider by phone or WhatsApp before you land or on arrival.
Many winter flights from the UK, Central Asia and Europe land at night or early in the morning, and immigration queues can build up when several arrive together. Share your flight number when booking so the provider follows your real landing time. The price stays the same if your flight is late.
Where do transfers from Mopa Airport go?
- Arambol & Morjim
- 29 km, about 41–52 minutes. The Pernem coast: Arambol's yoga and music scene, quieter Mandrem and Ashwem, and Morjim near the Chapora river mouth.
- Anjuna & Vagator
- 31 km, about 42–53 minutes. Cliffs, small coves, the Wednesday flea market in Anjuna and the Chapora Fort viewpoint above Vagator.
- Calangute & Baga
- 32 km, about 46–58 minutes. North Goa's busiest beach strip, with the widest choice of hotels, restaurants and nightlife.
- Candolim
- 33 km, about 46–58 minutes. A calmer, long sandy beach running south towards Fort Aguada, popular with couples and families.
The roads from Mopa to the coast
A dedicated access road links the airport to the NH66 highway. For Calangute, Baga, Candolim, Anjuna and Vagator the drive heads south through Pernem, crosses the Chapora river and continues through Bardez, usually via the Mapusa area, before turning onto smaller village roads towards the sea. For Arambol and Morjim you stay on the Pernem side of the river and head west through villages and cashew plantations.
All four destinations are roughly 40 minutes to one hour away. The last kilometres on narrow village roads are the slowest part, especially around Calangute and Baga in the evening.
Choosing the right vehicle
- Private car
- For one to three passengers with normal suitcases.
- Minivan / MPV
- For families and groups up to about seven. With seven adults and large suitcases an MPV is full, so mention your luggage when booking.
- Larger vehicles and extras
- Larger vans on request. Child seats can be requested, and surfboards or kite gear must be declared when booking.
Season and travel timing
The main season runs from November to March, when the monsoon is over, the beach shacks are open and the weather is dry and warm. Christmas and New Year are the busiest weeks of the year in North Goa: roads near the beaches are crowded and hotels fill up, so booking the transfer early makes sense.
From June to September the monsoon brings heavy rain, slower roads and closed beach shacks.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mopa or Dabolim closer to Calangute and Baga?
Mopa is closer: 32 km and about 46–58 minutes, compared with 44 km and about 57–72 minutes from Dabolim, which also means crossing two rivers via Panaji. In practice, your flight decides the airport, so check whether your ticket says GOX or GOI.
How long is the drive from Mopa Airport to the North Goa beaches?
Typically 41 to 58 minutes. Arambol and Morjim are quickest; Calangute, Baga and Candolim take longest because of village traffic.
What happens if my flight to Mopa is delayed?
Share your flight number when booking. The local provider follows your actual landing time, and the agreed price does not change for a delay or for traffic.
Do I need Indian rupees for the transfer?
No. The total price is agreed before booking and paid through HotelTaxi, so you do not need cash for the ride. Rupees are useful later for small purchases and beach shacks.
