Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) → Michamvi transfer

Although Michamvi looks close on the map, there is no direct road across Chwaka Bay. The route crosses the island past Jozani forest to Paje and then turns north along the coast through Bwejuu before running up the peninsula.

The last stretch is quieter and passes small villages and palm groves. Hotels at the tip of the peninsula are at the far end of the trip.

Most of Zanzibar’s east coast faces the sunrise. Michamvi is the exception: its western shore looks across Chwaka Bay, so you can watch the sun set over the water without travelling to the north.

The area around Pingwe and Michamvi is also known for a well-known seafood restaurant built on a rock in the sea, reached on foot at low tide and by boat at high tide. Booking a table in advance is usually needed in high season.

Michamvi attracts couples and travellers who want quiet hotels with space around them. Properties are spread out, and some are reached by unpaved lanes where the driver stops at the nearest accessible point.

There are few shops and restaurants outside the hotels, so many guests eat in or take short taxi rides to Paje or Bwejuu.
