Saalbach and Hinterglemm are the two main villages of the Glemm valley, the heart of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, one of the largest connected ski areas in Austria. Your driver takes you to the door of your hotel or chalet, or as close as the village streets allow.

How long is the drive from Salzburg Airport to Saalbach?

Allow about an hour and a half. Depending on traffic, the driver either heads west through the Saalach valley via Lofer and Saalfelden, or south on the Tauern motorway and then along the Salzach valley. Both routes meet near Maishofen, where the road turns into the Glemm valley.

The Glemm valley is a dead end, so there is no through traffic. The road climbs gently past Viehhofen to Saalbach and continues a few kilometres further to Hinterglemm. After fresh snow this last section can be white, and winter tyres or chains are used when conditions require them.

Saalbach, Hinterglemm or Viehhofen: where you are staying

Saalbach
The larger village, with a compact centre around the church. Parts of the centre are pedestrianised, so for some hotels the driver stops at the nearest accessible point and the last metres are on foot.
Hinterglemm
Further up the valley and more spread out along the main road. Many hotels are close to a lift, which helps with heavy ski bags.
Viehhofen
A quieter village at the valley entrance, popular with families who prefer calmer evenings.

Après-ski, late arrivals and the Skicircus

Saalbach and Hinterglemm are known for a busy après-ski scene, and the villages stay lively into the evening in peak weeks. If your flight lands late, the drive is usually quieter; give your accommodation's exact name so you are dropped at the right entrance.

The Skicircus also reaches Leogang and Fieberbrunn, which lie in other valleys and are reached by different roads. If your accommodation is there rather than in the Glemm valley, enter the exact address when booking.

Frequently asked questions

Can the driver reach my hotel in the centre of Saalbach?

Many hotels can be reached directly. Where the centre is pedestrianised, the driver stops at the nearest accessible point. Hotel staff often help with luggage over the last metres.

Does the transfer go to Hinterglemm as well?

Yes. Hinterglemm is a few kilometres beyond Saalbach in the same valley, and the price and drive time are very similar. Enter your exact accommodation when booking.

Do we need snow chains for the Glemm valley?

You do not need to arrange anything. The vehicle runs on winter tyres and the driver fits chains if road conditions require them.

We are a group of eight with skis. Which vehicle should we book?

A minivan holds up to about 7 passengers, so eight people with skis usually need a larger vehicle or two cars. State the number of ski bags when booking so the provider can plan.
