The drop-off is Khlong Sok, the small village at the western entrance of Khao Sok National Park in Surat Thani province. The jungle lodges, treehouse-style bungalows and guesthouses are spread along the roads near the park headquarters.

From the airport the driver heads north and leaves Phuket over the bridges to the Phang Nga mainland.
Up the Andaman coast
The main highway runs north past Khok Kloi, Thai Mueang and Khao Lak to Takua Pa. This is the longest section and mostly easy driving.
Inland on Highway 401
At Takua Pa the road turns east towards Surat Thani and climbs into hills covered in forest, with limestone peaks appearing on both sides.
Into Khlong Sok
Close to the park entrance a short side road leads off the highway to the village, the park office and most of the lodges.
Staying near the park entrance
Khao Sok is a place for walking, river tubing and canoeing, night jungle walks and day trips to Cheow Lan Lake. Accommodation ranges from simple bungalows to comfortable lodges set in gardens at the edge of the forest. Some lodges are down unpaved lanes; give the driver the lodge name and location pin so the ride ends at the right gate.
Cheow Lan Lake, with its floating raft houses, is not at Khlong Sok. The boats leave from the dam pier around 65 km further east, and lake stays are usually booked as tours from the village. This transfer ends at Khlong Sok unless you book a different address.
Packing and timing for Khao Sok

- The wettest months are roughly May to November, with the heaviest rain towards the end. Some trails and waterfalls close in that period. The drier months from December to April are the main season.
- Travel light for the lake
- A small bag is easier on the lake boats. Many lodges in the village can store larger suitcases while you are away.
- Arrive in daylight
- The last hour is on a forested road and lodge lanes are dark. With a late landing, it can be more relaxed to sleep near Phuket or in Khao Lak and continue the next morning.
