Phuket International Airport transfer
This page covers private transfers from Phuket International Airport (HKT) to the beaches of Phuket and to Khao Lak and Natai on the Phang Nga mainland, with the price agreed before you book and a driver waiting for you in arrivals. The rides are carried out by local transfer companies that work at this airport every day.

The airport sits at the far north of the island, close to Nai Yang and Mai Khao beaches. Most of the well-known resort beaches are further south along the west coast, so transfer times here are often longer than the distance suggests.

Arriving at Phuket Airport
Phuket has separate international and domestic terminals. International arrivals go through immigration and customs before reaching the arrivals hall, and queues at passport control can be long when several long-haul flights land close together in the high season.
Once you have your luggage, your driver meets you at the meeting point in the arrivals area with a name sign. The exact place is agreed with the local provider by phone or WhatsApp before you land or as you arrive. Sharing your flight number when you book lets the provider follow your actual landing time, so a delay does not leave you without a ride.
Where do transfers from Phuket Airport go?
- Bang Tao & Laguna
- 18 km, about 35–44 minutes. A long west-coast beach with the gated Laguna resort area, villas and family hotels.
- Kamala
- 25 km, about 52–65 minutes. A quieter bay between Surin and Patong, popular with families and longer stays.
- Patong
- 38 km, about 71–89 minutes. Phuket's busiest beach town, with nightlife, shopping and a wide choice of hotels.
- Kata & Karon
- 42 km, about 83–104 minutes. Two neighbouring beaches in the south-west, calmer than Patong and well liked by families.
- Natai (Phang Nga)
- 28 km, about 26–33 minutes. A secluded mainland beach just north of the bridges, known for private villas and small upscale resorts.
- Khao Lak
- 80 km, about 73–92 minutes. A long stretch of beach resorts on the Phang Nga coast and a base for diving trips to the Similan Islands.
Why short distances can take over an hour
Phuket is hilly, and most of its west-coast beaches sit in bays separated by steep headlands. To reach Patong, Kamala, Kata or Karon from the airport, the road first runs south through the busy centre of the island and then climbs over winding hill roads down to the coast. Traffic around the main junctions builds up in the late afternoon and on weekends.
Khao Lak and Natai are different. They lie north of the airport on the mainland in Phang Nga province, reached over the bridges that link Phuket to the mainland and then along a main highway with far less traffic. That is why Natai, at 28 km, can be quicker than Bang Tao at 18 km.
Choosing a vehicle
A private car suits 1–3 passengers with normal luggage. A minivan carries up to about seven people and is the sensible choice for families with large cases, groups of friends or anyone bringing diving gear, surfboards or golf bags. Larger vehicles are available on request.
Child seats can be requested when you book. Sports equipment should be declared at booking so the provider sends a vehicle with enough space. Every ride is private: no shared shuttle and no stops at other hotels.
When to travel to Phuket
The main beach season runs from November to April, when the Andaman Sea is usually calm and the weather drier. Christmas, New Year and the weeks around them are the busiest time for arrivals, and the airport and roads are noticeably fuller.
From roughly May to October the south-west monsoon brings showers and rougher seas to the west coast. Sudden heavy rain can slow traffic on the hill roads, so allow extra time on transfer days.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Phuket Airport from Patong?
The drive is 38 km and usually takes about 71–89 minutes. The route crosses the centre of the island and the hill above Patong, so traffic has a big influence on the time.
Is Khao Lak far from Phuket Airport?
Khao Lak is 80 km north of the airport on the Phang Nga mainland. The drive usually takes about 73–92 minutes, mostly on a main highway with lighter traffic than Phuket's resort roads.
What happens if my flight to Phuket is delayed?
Share your flight number when you book so the local provider can follow your arrival. The agreed price does not change because of a delayed flight or traffic.
Can I book a minivan for a family or group?
Yes. Minivans for up to about seven passengers can be booked for every route on this page, and larger vehicles are available on request.
How do I pay for my Phuket airport transfer?
You book online on hoteltaxi.com or in a WhatsApp chat. The total price is shown and agreed before booking, and payment goes through HotelTaxi.
