HotelTaxi arranges the ride with a local transfer company. Book online or on WhatsApp and you are driven straight to your hotel in town or a lodge near Lake Nakuru National Park.
Which road does the transfer take?
The usual route crosses Nairobi and then follows the A104 highway north-west through the highlands, down into the Rift Valley and past Lake Naivasha before reaching Nakuru. It is a main road throughout, busy with trucks and buses.
Because the airport is on the far side of Nairobi, the city section at the start matters. A weekday morning or evening departure can add a lot to the engine time.
Lake Nakuru National Park and the town
Lake Nakuru National Park borders the town to the south and is known for its rhino sanctuary, where both black and white rhinos live, as well as buffalo, Rothschild's giraffe and lions. The number of flamingos on the lake changes a lot from year to year with water levels, so they are not guaranteed.
Nakuru itself is a large, busy town with hotels for business travellers. Safari lodges sit inside the park or on its edges, and some are reached by park tracks after the main gate.
Before you set off
- Lodges inside the park
- Park entry fees are not part of the transfer. Check with your lodge how guests are brought from the gate to the property.
- Daylight arrival
- With a drive of four hours or more, a morning landing lets you arrive before dark. After a late landing, consider a night in Nairobi first.
- Breaks
- On a drive this long a short comfort stop along the highway is normal. Mention it when booking if you need one.
