Which road does the driver take to Cascais?
From the airport the car joins the ring roads around Lisbon and then the A5, the Estoril coast motorway and the oldest motorway in Portugal. It runs west above the suburbs of Oeiras and Carcavelos before dropping down towards Estoril and Cascais.
The alternative is the Marginal, the coast road along the mouth of the Tagus. It is slower and busy with local traffic, so it is used mainly when a hotel is right on the seafront or the motorway is jammed. On weekday mornings and late afternoons the A5 is a commuter road, which is why the drive can reach the upper end of the time range.
Where the hotels are
- Estoril
- Grand hotels around the casino gardens and along the beach promenade, close to the train line and the sea.
- Cascais centre
- The old fishing town with its bay, marina and citadel. Some streets in the centre are pedestrian, so the car stops at the nearest point you can be reached by road.
- Quinta da Marinha and Guincho
- Villas, golf resorts and hotels west of town towards the windswept Guincho beach and the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
Golf bags, prams and family luggage
The Estoril coast is one of Portugal's classic golf areas, with several courses between Cascais and the hills of Sintra. If you travel with golf bags, list them when booking: two players with bags and suitcases usually need a minivan rather than a car.
Families staying in Cascais often bring prams and beach gear. Mention them as well, together with the ages of any children who need a seat.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the transfer from Lisbon Airport to Cascais?
Usually 43–54 minutes for the 38 km. Evening rush hour on the A5 or summer weekend traffic can make it longer, while a late-night arrival is often at the quick end of the range.
Is Estoril on the way to Cascais?
Yes. Estoril lies just before Cascais on the same stretch of coast, so hotels in either town are covered by this transfer. Tell us the hotel name and the driver goes directly there.
Can I be dropped at a hotel in the pedestrian centre of Cascais?
The driver brings you as close as the streets allow. Where the last part is pedestrian, you are dropped at the nearest accessible point, which is usually only a short walk.
Can I book a transfer to Guincho or Quinta da Marinha?
Yes. Give the exact address of the villa or resort when booking. These areas are a few minutes beyond Cascais town, and the price shown before booking reflects your actual address.
Is the motorway toll included?
The price you agree before booking is the total for the ride. Nothing is added afterwards for tolls, traffic or a delayed flight.
