Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport transfer

This page is about private transfers from Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) to the coast around the Portuguese capital: Cascais and Estoril on the western shore, the surf town of Ericeira to the north-west, the beaches of Costa da Caparica across the Tagus, and Comporta further south on the Alentejo coast.

HotelTaxi books each ride with a local transfer company that drives at LIS every day. You reserve online or on WhatsApp, see the full price before you confirm, and a driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign.

Where is Lisbon Airport and which coast does it serve?

LIS lies inside the city, a few kilometres north of the historic centre. A ride into central Lisbon is short, but many travellers who land here are not staying in town at all. They head for the Atlantic beaches that surround the city on three sides.

The airport sits next to Lisbon's ring roads, the Segunda Circular and the CRIL, so a driver reaches the motorways towards Cascais, Ericeira or the Tagus bridges within minutes. South of the river the A2 motorway continues towards Setúbal and the Alentejo, which is the way to Comporta.

Drive times from LIS to the coast

Cascais & Estoril
38 km, usually 43–54 minutes along the A5 motorway. Seaside towns with a marina, a casino, golf courses and Guincho beach nearby.
Ericeira
41 km, usually 29–37 minutes by motorway via Mafra. Fishing town and World Surfing Reserve with surf camps along the cliffs.
Costa da Caparica
23 km, usually 21–27 minutes over the 25 de Abril Bridge. A long sandy beach on the south bank, popular for beginner surfing.
Comporta
120 km, usually 77–97 minutes across the Tagus and down the A2. Rice fields, pine forest and quiet beaches on the Alentejo coast.

How does the meeting at arrivals work?

Lisbon has two terminals, and the one you use depends on your airline. Add your flight number when you book: the local provider follows the arrival time and the driver waits in the arrivals area with your name. Exact meeting details are agreed with you by phone or WhatsApp before you land or once you have your bags.

If the flight is delayed, the pickup moves with it. The price was fixed when you booked and does not change because of a late landing or traffic on the ring road.

Choosing the right vehicle

Private car
For one to three passengers with normal suitcases. Suits a city break that continues to Cascais or a couple heading to Comporta.
Minivan
For families and groups of up to about seven, or when the luggage is bulky. Often the better choice for surf trips.
Surfboards and golf bags
Ericeira and Costa da Caparica draw surfers, Cascais and Estoril draw golfers. Declare boards or golf bags when booking so a vehicle with enough space is sent.
Child seats
Request them in the booking with the children's ages. The local provider fits them before the pickup.

When is the busy season on the Lisbon coast?

Lisbon is a year-round destination, but the coast is busiest from April to October. In July and August the roads to the beaches fill up at weekends, when residents of the city leave for Caparica, Cascais and the Alentejo at the same time as arriving visitors.

Surfers come in every season. Autumn and winter bring the bigger Atlantic swells to Ericeira, while summer waves are smaller and suit lessons. Comporta is mainly a summer and shoulder-season destination, and some of its beach restaurants close in winter.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Lisbon Airport from the beaches?

Costa da Caparica is the nearest beach area at 23 km, usually just over 20 minutes away. Cascais and Ericeira are around 40 km from LIS, while Comporta is about 120 km south and takes roughly one and a half hours.

Can the transfer cross the Tagus bridges?

Yes. Rides to Costa da Caparica and Comporta use the bridges over the Tagus as part of the normal route. The price you agree before booking is the total, with nothing added on top for the crossing.

Can I bring a surfboard in the transfer?

Yes, as long as you declare it when booking, including the number and length of the boards. The local provider then sends a vehicle with the right space, usually a minivan for longer boards.

Is a private transfer useful if I stay in central Lisbon first?

Yes. You can book a short ride from LIS into the city and later a separate transfer from your Lisbon hotel to the coast, so you do not carry your luggage on public transport between the two stays.

Do I need to book in advance for a summer arrival?

Booking ahead is sensible from June to September, when flights into Lisbon are full and demand for larger vehicles is high. You see the price before confirming and the driver is arranged for your flight.
