This mountain town near the source of the Vistula is the home of ski jumper Adam Małysz, and its slopes are spread across several small ski areas. It attracts families and relaxed skiers who prefer quiet runs to big-resort crowds.

Two ways into Wisła

The first part of the drive heads west to Bielsko-Biała, either on country roads via Wadowice or on the motorway via the Katowice area. From there, the driver has a choice.

One option continues on the expressway towards Skoczów and then follows the valley road through Ustroń into Wisła. The other climbs over the Salmopol Pass from Szczyrk, at around 934 m, on a winding regional road. In snow, drivers usually prefer the valley route, even if it is a little longer.

Where to ski from Wisła

Soszów
The largest ski area in Wisła, on a ridge shared with the Czech border.
Stożek
Several runs below Stożek Wielki, from easy to demanding.
Shared pass
Many of the town's ski areas, plus a few nearby in Ustroń and Istebna, accept one shared ski card.

A spread-out town

Wisła stretches along several side valleys, and guesthouses can be far from the centre and from each other. A hotel in Malinka or near the Czarne reservoir is a very different drop-off from the town centre, so always give the full street address.

The ski jump named after Adam Małysz stands in Malinka and hosts international competitions. On those weekends, traffic and accommodation in town get noticeably busier.

Leaving Wisła for your flight

Book your pickup 5 hours before departure from Kraków. If snow is forecast or a ski jumping event is on, allow 5.5 hours.
