From Graz to the upper Mur valley
North on the A9
The ride starts on the Pyhrn motorway, through the Gleinalm tunnel to St. Michael in Upper Styria.
Murtal expressway
The S36 follows the Mur valley west past Knittelfeld and the Spielberg racetrack towards Judenburg.
Valley road B96
Beyond the expressway, the Murtal road continues through Scheifling and the town of Murau.
St. Georgen am Kreischberg
A few kilometres past Murau you reach the valley station and the hotels of St. Georgen.
Winter driving on the Murtal road
There is no high pass on this route, but the last hour runs on an ordinary valley road where snow and slush slow things down after a fresh fall. Vehicles use winter tyres in season and carry chains for the final climbs to hotels above the valley.
The drive time can lengthen on Saturdays, when many holiday apartments change guests, and on days with heavy snowfall.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Kreischberg from Graz Airport?
It is 150 km, usually 110–138 minutes by car via the A9, the Murtal expressway and the B96 valley road.
When should we leave Kreischberg for our return flight?
Allow up to 138 minutes for the drive plus about two hours at the airport. Leaving four and a half hours before departure is a safe rule, more after heavy snow.
Can you drop us in Murau instead of St. Georgen?
Yes. Enter your accommodation address in Murau or any village nearby; the price for that address is shown before you confirm.
Is the transfer price higher on snowy days?
No. The total agreed at booking stays the same, regardless of road conditions, traffic or a delayed flight.
Can we bring a large group with ski equipment?
Yes. Minivans take up to about seven people, and larger vehicles can be requested. Give the number of passengers and bags when booking.
