Graz Airport transfer
This page explains how a private ski transfer from Graz Airport (GRZ) to Schladming works, how long the drive takes and when Graz is the right airport for a ski week in the Schladming-Dachstein region. HotelTaxi books your ride with a local, professional transfer company that knows the airport, and the total price is shown and agreed before you book.

The airport lies just south of Graz, in Styria. From here, HotelTaxi offers ski transfers to Schladming in the Enns valley, 180 km away; rides within the city of Graz are not part of this offer.
Arriving at Graz Airport in winter
Graz is a small, easy-to-navigate airport, reached by direct flights or connections via larger European hubs depending on where you start. Short walking distances mean you are usually out of the terminal soon after collecting your luggage, though ski bags can take a little longer.
Your driver waits in the arrivals area with a name sign. Share your flight number when booking: the local provider follows your actual landing time, and the agreed price stays the same if your flight is late. Exact meeting details are arranged directly between the provider and you by phone or WhatsApp. The ride is private, with no shared shuttle and no stops for other passengers.
Graz or Salzburg: which airport for Schladming?
For most skiers, Salzburg is the shorter option. Schladming is 91 km and usually 67–84 minutes from Salzburg Airport, against 180 km and usually 127–159 minutes from Graz. If both airports suit your plans equally, Salzburg saves about an hour each way.
Graz still makes sense in several situations: when your home airport has better connections or more convenient flight times to Graz, when Salzburg flights are full or expensive on peak Saturdays, or when your trip includes other stops in Styria. Graz is also a quieter airport, which some families prefer on busy changeover weekends.
The Schladming-Dachstein area
- Schladming
- 180 km, usually 127–159 minutes. A lively market town below the Planai, linked with the Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling and Reiteralm in Ski amadé.
- Haus im Ennstal
- A village east of Schladming at the foot of the Hauser Kaibling. Coming from Graz, you pass it shortly before Schladming.
- Ramsau am Dachstein
- A sunny plateau below the Dachstein massif, known for cross-country skiing. The access road climbs above the valley.
- Rohrmoos and Pichl
- Hotels on the slopes above and west of Schladming, close to the Hochwurzen and Reiteralm. Give your exact address for these.
The road from Graz to the Enns valley
The transfer heads north on the Pyhrn motorway (A9) through the long Gleinalm tunnel and on through upper Styria, over the low Schober pass towards Liezen. From there, the Enns valley road runs west past Stainach and Gröbming to Schladming. It is mostly motorway with no high mountain pass, so it stays open in normal winter weather.
Vehicles run on winter tyres and carry chains when conditions require them. Snow is most likely on the valley road and on the final roads to hotels above Schladming. Traffic is heaviest on Saturdays, when most accommodation in the region changes over.
Vehicle choice for a longer transfer
- Private car
- For 1–3 passengers with suitcases and one ski bag each. On a drive of over two hours, having space to stretch out helps.
- Minivan
- For families and groups of up to about 7, with room for ski bags, boot bags and child seats.
- Equipment and child seats
- Declare skis, snowboards and boot bags when booking, and request child seats with the age of each child.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the transfer from Graz Airport to Schladming?
The 180 km usually take 127–159 minutes, mostly on the A9 motorway and then along the Enns valley. Snow and Saturday traffic can add time, but the agreed price does not change.
Is Salzburg closer to Schladming than Graz?
Yes. Salzburg Airport is 91 km from Schladming, about half the distance. Graz is worth considering if your flights there are more convenient.
Does HotelTaxi offer rides within Graz?
No. From Graz Airport, HotelTaxi offers ski transfers to Schladming and the surrounding area, not city rides in Graz.
Can you drop us in Ramsau am Dachstein or Haus im Ennstal?
Yes. Enter the exact address when booking; you see the price for that destination before you confirm.
Do we need to think about snow chains?
No. The provider's vehicle runs on winter tyres, and the driver fits chains if conditions require them.
