Cairo International Airport (CAI)
To
Giza Pyramids
Distance
49 km
Typical drive
66–83 min

This is the longest of the city transfers, because the airport sits in the north-east and the Pyramids plateau marks the western edge of Greater Cairo. A private car takes you straight to your hotel near Al Haram without a stop in the centre.

How long is the drive from Cairo Airport to the Pyramids?

Plan on 66–83 minutes in normal conditions. The route crosses the whole metropolitan area, either around the ring road or through the city and over the Nile, and the driver picks the option that is moving best at that hour.

Late-evening and night arrivals are usually the quickest. Weekday afternoons and evenings are the slowest, and the final stretch along the busy streets leading towards the plateau can add time.

Where the hotels around the Pyramids are

Right by the plateau
Small hotels and guesthouses close to the Sphinx side and several large hotels near the northern edge of the site, some with direct views of the pyramids.
Along Al Haram
The long avenue that leads from the Nile towards the Pyramids, lined with hotels of all sizes and plenty of local traffic.
Near the Grand Egyptian Museum
The museum opened officially in November 2025 close to the plateau, and newer hotels have grown up in this part of Giza.

Why stay in Giza rather than central Cairo?

Staying near the Pyramids lets you reach the site early, before the tour buses and the midday heat, and gives you evening views across the plateau. The Grand Egyptian Museum is also close by, so two of the main sights of a Cairo trip are in the same area.

The trade-off is distance from Downtown, Islamic Cairo and the Nile corniche, which are a long drive away in traffic. Many travellers split their stay: a night or two in Giza and the rest in the centre.

Getting back from Giza to Cairo Airport

For an international departure, leave your Giza hotel about four and a half hours before take-off. That covers the 66–83 minute drive, a buffer for traffic across the city and around three hours at the airport. For an evening flight during the week, add a little more.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a transfer from Cairo Airport to the Pyramids?

A private car typically costs around €25–35 and a minivan around €35–50. The exact price for your date and vehicle is shown before you book and does not change for traffic.

Can the driver take me to the Pyramids site instead of a hotel?

The transfer goes to an address you give when booking. If you land in the morning with luggage, it is usually easier to drop the bags at the hotel first and visit the plateau afterwards.

Is Giza far from the Grand Egyptian Museum?

No. The museum lies close to the Pyramids plateau, so hotels in this part of Giza are well placed for both. From central Cairo it is a much longer ride.

Can I book a minivan for a family with a lot of luggage?

Yes. A minivan takes up to about seven people with cases, which helps when you are starting a longer tour of Egypt. Mention child seats when you book.
