Taghazout and Tamraght Winter Surf Season 2026/27 Guide

Winter surf in Taghazout and Tamraght from October to March: beginner and advanced spots, surf and yoga camps, Agadir as a base, travelling with boards and Agadir Airport transfers.

Why winter is surf season north of Agadir

Taghazout and Tamraght, two coastal villages just north of Agadir in Morocco, are at their best for surfing from October to March. In these months North Atlantic storms send long-period swells to this south-facing stretch of coast, where a series of right-hand point breaks wraps around the headlands.

The weather is mild for a winter trip: daytime temperatures are usually in the low 20s °C with plenty of sun, while mornings and evenings are cool. The water is around the high teens °C, so most surfers use a 3/2 or 4/3 mm wetsuit. Both villages are reached from Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) in under an hour.

Spots for beginners and advanced surfers

Beginners
Sandy beach breaks such as those in Tamraght and at Banana Beach near Aourir, plus Agadir's own beach on small days, are where surf schools take their students. Waves are softer and the bottom is sand.
Intermediate
Points and reefs around Tamraght and the south of Taghazout work on moderate swells and are a good step up once you can catch and ride green waves.
Advanced
Anchor Point and the reef and point breaks north of Taghazout are long, powerful rights over rock. They are crowded on good days, and local etiquette matters: wait your turn and do not drop in.
Flat days
When the swell drops, surf camps often drive to beaches further along the coast that pick up more swell, or switch to yoga and rest days.

Surf camps, yoga and where to stay

Taghazout is the busier village, with surf shops, cafes and guesthouses stacked on the hillside above the bay, and newer resort hotels just south of it. Tamraght is a little quieter and closer to the beginner beaches. Most surf camps in both villages offer packages with accommodation, daily transport to the best spot for the conditions, lessons or guiding, board hire and often yoga sessions.

Agadir is a practical base if you want a city with a long promenade, larger hotels and more restaurants, and only want to surf a few days. From Agadir, the surf villages are a short drive north along the coast.

Ramadan in 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, with the exact date depending on the moon sighting. Surf camps and tourist areas stay open, but some cafes change their hours during the day, and it is courteous not to eat or drink in the street during fasting hours.

From Agadir Airport to Taghazout and Tamraght

Agadir Airport lies south-east of the city, so the drive to the surf villages goes through or around Agadir and then north along the coast road. Expect about 30 minutes to Agadir hotels, about 40 minutes to Tamraght and about 45 minutes to Taghazout. The road is busier in the morning and evening around the city.

Boards change the transfer. A standard car cannot always take a long board bag, so declare surfboards when you book with HotelTaxi and the local provider will send a suitable vehicle, often a van. Groups arriving together with several board bags should book a minivan. Many surf camps can also organise airport pickups; if yours does not, a private transfer takes you directly to the guesthouse door, as far as the vehicle can go on the narrower village lanes.

For departure, leave Taghazout about 2 hours 45 minutes before your flight and allow extra time for checking in board bags.
