Taghazout is the surf village most travellers have in mind when they think of surfing in Morocco. Many arrive with board bags, wetsuits and long stays planned, so getting the right vehicle matters more here than on a city transfer.

How long is the drive from Agadir Airport to Taghazout?

Plan for roughly an hour. The first part crosses the Souss plain and the southern suburbs towards Agadir. The driver then passes around or through the city, depending on traffic, and continues past the fishing port.

North of Agadir the road follows the Atlantic coast through Anza, Aourir and Tamraght. You see the surf breaks long before you arrive. The road is not a motorway, and the busiest part is usually the city section rather than the coast.

Village, surf camps or Taghazout Bay

Taghazout itself is a compact fishing village on a slope above the beach, with narrow lanes, surf shops, cafés and many small guesthouses and surf camps. Vehicles cannot reach every door, so the driver may stop at the main road or the nearest accessible point. Your host often meets you there or helps with bags.

Just south of the village lies Taghazout Bay, a newer resort area with larger hotels, apartments and a golf course. Here the drop-off is usually directly at reception. Mention the exact address or camp name when booking.

Timing your surf trip

Peak swell season
From autumn to early spring the Atlantic swells are at their most consistent, and the famous point breaks around the village draw experienced surfers.
Learning to surf
Beginners come all year, using the gentler beaches nearby. Surf schools often arrange lessons from the first day, so an early arrival time helps.
Groups and camps
Surf camps often receive several guests from the same flight. A minivan or larger vehicle for the whole group keeps boards and bags together.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Agadir Airport to Taghazout?

A private transfer usually costs around €40–50 for a car with up to three passengers and €50–65 for a minivan. The exact price is shown before booking and stays fixed even if your flight lands late.

Do surfboards cost extra?

Boards must be declared when booking because they affect the vehicle type. The price shown at booking already reflects the vehicle needed for your group and equipment.

Can the driver drop me at my surf camp in the village?

The driver takes you as close as the road allows. Some camps and guesthouses are on lanes cars cannot use, so the last few metres may be on foot, often with help from your host.

When should I leave Taghazout for my flight home?

Leave about three and a half hours before your departure. That covers the 55–69 minute drive, traffic through Agadir and the airport formalities.

Is Taghazout Bay the same as Taghazout village?

No. Taghazout Bay is the resort development just south of the village, with larger hotels and a golf course. Give your hotel name so the driver goes to the right place.
