Tokyo Haneda International Airport transfer

This page covers private transfers from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) straight to Hakone and to Lake Kawaguchiko in the Fuji Five Lakes area. HotelTaxi does not offer short rides into Tokyo from Haneda: the service here is the long drive west to onsen towns and Fuji-view hotels, booked with a local transfer company and at a total price agreed before you travel.

Haneda sits on Tokyo Bay, south of the city centre. For travellers heading to Hakone or Mount Fuji, that location is a real advantage over Narita.

Transfers from this airport

Arriving at Haneda for Hakone or Mount Fuji

After immigration, customs and baggage claim, your driver meets you in the arrivals area with a name sign. Haneda has more than one terminal, so share your flight number when booking: the local provider follows the actual landing time and confirms the exact meeting point with you by phone or WhatsApp.

From the kerb, you go straight to your ryokan or hotel. There is no change at a Tokyo station and no carrying suitcases through crowds, which matters after a long-haul flight.

Where HotelTaxi drives from Haneda

Hakone
91 km, usually 97–122 minutes. Hot-spring town in the mountains west of Tokyo, with ryokan spread from Hakone-Yumoto up through Miyanoshita and Gora to Sengokuhara and Lake Ashi. Typically around €320–420 by car.
Kawaguchiko (Fuji Five Lakes)
126 km, usually 116–145 minutes. Lakeside resort on the north side of Mount Fuji, known for direct views of the mountain across the water. Typically around €380–500 by car.

Why Haneda is usually the better airport for this trip

Haneda lies south of central Tokyo, so the drive heads west on the expressway network towards the Tomei expressway corridor without crossing the whole city. Narita is far to the east in Chiba, and the same trips from there take roughly an hour or more longer and cost noticeably more.

If you can choose your flight, Haneda saves time and money for both Hakone and Kawaguchiko. If your ticket lands at Narita, a direct private ride is still possible; see the Narita page for those routes.

Car or minivan

Standard car (1–3 passengers)
Fits two to three people with normal luggage. Japanese sedans have modest boots, so two large suitcases plus cabin bags is a sensible limit.
Minivan (up to about 7)
The better choice for families, groups or anyone with several large suitcases, golf bags or a pram. Typically around €400–520 to Hakone and €470–620 to Kawaguchiko.

Seasons: cherry blossom, autumn leaves and Fuji views

Spring and autumn are the busy seasons. Cherry blossoms usually open in Tokyo in late March and a little later in the hills, often into April around Hakone and the Fuji lakes. Autumn colour usually peaks in November, when Hakone and the shores of Lake Kawaguchi fill with visitors and traffic on mountain roads slows at weekends.

Mount Fuji is most often visible on clear, cold mornings from late autumn to early spring. In spring it is frequently hidden by haze or cloud, so plan a full day at the lake rather than one short stop. Golden Week, around late April and early May, brings heavy traffic out of Tokyo.

Prices and tolls

Private transfers in Japan cost more than in most countries: the distances are long and the expressways are tolled. The ranges above are indicative. The exact total is shown before booking; check that the summary lists expressway tolls as included.

Flying home from Haneda

Book the return ride when you book the arrival, or at least a few days ahead in spring and autumn. As a rule, plan the pickup about 5½ hours before an international flight from Hakone and about 6 hours from Kawaguchiko. That covers the drive, a margin for expressway congestion and around 3 hours at the airport. Add more on Sunday afternoons and at the end of holidays.

Frequently asked questions

Does HotelTaxi offer rides from Haneda into central Tokyo?

No. From Haneda, HotelTaxi only offers the long private transfers to Hakone and the Fuji Five Lakes area.

Is Haneda or Narita better for Hakone and Mount Fuji?

Haneda. It lies south of Tokyo on the side facing Hakone and Fuji, so the drive is shorter and cheaper. From Narita, the car first has to get around or through Tokyo.

What if my flight is delayed?

Share your flight number when booking. The local provider follows the actual landing time, and the agreed total price does not change because of a delay or traffic.

Can I see Mount Fuji on the drive?

On clear days it can appear on the way, especially on the approach to Kawaguchiko. Visibility depends on the weather, and in spring the mountain is often hidden by cloud.

Can I bring skis, golf bags or a large pram?

Yes, if you declare them when booking so a vehicle with enough space is sent. For several large items a minivan is usually needed.
