Dabolim is Goa's original airport. It lies near the port town of Vasco da Gama on the Mormugao peninsula, between the mouth of the Zuari river and the sea, which puts the long beaches of Salcete and the coves of Canacona within easy reach.

Where Dabolim sits, and why it matters
Dabolim's runway belongs to a naval air station, with a civil terminal handling domestic and international flights. Its position in the south-centre of the state makes it the closer airport for everything south of the Zuari river: Colva, Benaulim, Varca, Cavelossim, Mobor, Agonda and Palolem.
Goa's second airport, Manohar International at Mopa (GOX), is in the far north. Check the code on your ticket before booking: GOI means Dabolim. If you are staying in South Goa and can choose your flight, Dabolim saves a long drive; for Arambol, Anjuna or Candolim, Mopa is usually the better choice.
From the plane to your hotel
Immigration and baggage
International passengers pass immigration and customs. In the winter season several charter flights often land close together, so queues can take time.
Meeting your driver
The driver waits at the meeting point in the arrivals area with a name sign. The exact place is agreed with the local provider by phone or WhatsApp.
Flight delays
Share your flight number when booking. The provider follows the real landing time, and the price agreed in advance stays the same.
The drive
Straight to your hotel in a private car or minivan, without stops for other passengers.
Drive times from Dabolim Airport
- Colva & Benaulim
- 25 km, about 46–58 minutes. The lively centre of South Goa's long beach, with a quieter fishing-village feel in Benaulim.
- Cavelossim & Mobor
- 39 km, about 55–69 minutes. Large resort hotels on a narrow strip between the Sal river and the sea.
- Palolem
- 65 km, about 86–108 minutes. A palm-lined crescent bay in Canacona, reached over a forested hill section.
- Calangute & Baga
- 44 km, about 57–72 minutes. North Goa's busiest beaches, reached via Panaji and the Zuari and Mandovi bridges.
South Goa's character
South Goa is generally calmer than the north. The beach from Majorda to Mobor is one almost continuous stretch of sand lined with villages, while Canacona further south has smaller bays and beach huts. Many hotels here are larger resorts with gardens and pools, popular with families and with couples on longer winter stays.
The transfer roads go through Salcete villages, past whitewashed churches, paddy fields and old Portuguese-era houses. Traffic is lighter than around Calangute, but village roads are narrow and the area around Margao can be slow at rush hour.
Car, minivan or larger vehicle?
- Couples and small families
- A private car carries up to three passengers with standard luggage.
- Families and groups up to seven
- A minivan or MPV. With seven passengers and big suitcases it is full, so tell the provider about your luggage.
- Child seats and equipment
- Child seats can be requested when booking. Golf bags, surfboards or diving gear must be declared so the right vehicle comes.
Frequently asked questions
Is Dabolim or Mopa better for South Goa?
Dabolim. Colva is 25 km from Dabolim and Palolem 65 km, while from Mopa in the far north you would have to drive through the whole state. Check whether your ticket says GOI (Dabolim) or GOX (Mopa).
Can I get from Dabolim to Calangute or Baga?
Yes. It is 44 km and usually 57–72 minutes via the Zuari bridge, Panaji and the Mandovi bridges. Mopa is closer to these beaches, but if your flight lands at Dabolim the drive is straightforward.
What is the longest common transfer from Dabolim?
Palolem in Canacona, 65 km and usually 86–108 minutes. The route includes a winding hill section, so mention it if anyone in your group gets car-sick.
When is the best time to fly into Dabolim?
The main season is November to March, when the weather is dry and the beaches are fully open. Christmas and New Year are the busiest weeks, so book transport early for those dates.
Do I pay the driver in cash?
No. The total price is agreed before booking and paid through HotelTaxi. It does not change for traffic or a late flight.
