Corralejo sits at the northern tip of the island, looking across a narrow strait to Lobos and Lanzarote. It is a former fishing village that has grown into Fuerteventura's busiest resort town, popular with surfers, couples and families who like having restaurants and bars within walking distance.

What is the drive to Corralejo like?

From the airport the route heads north, skirting Puerto del Rosario and following the east coast on the FV-1. The landscape is open and dry, with the Atlantic on your right.

The last part of the drive is the most memorable: the road runs straight through the Corralejo dunes natural park, with pale sand dunes on both sides and the sea just beyond. The long Grandes Playas beaches line this stretch, a few kilometres before the town itself.

Where in Corralejo are you staying?

Southern edge of town
Hotels and apartment complexes at the southern end of Corralejo, near the start of the Grandes Playas, are reached first as you come in from the dunes.
Harbour and old town
The streets around the harbour are busy and partly pedestrianised, so the driver stops at the nearest accessible point for apartments in the centre.
Residential areas inland
Many villas and apartments lie in the quieter streets behind the main road. Give the full address when booking.

Bringing a surfboard

Corralejo is the island's main surf base. In winter, Atlantic swells reach the reefs along the north coast, and many surf schools and camps operate from the town.

If you travel with your own boards, declare them when booking and mention the length of the board bag. A minivan is often the better choice, even for two people, because long boards rarely fit in a standard car boot.

Getting back to the airport from Corralejo

With a drive of up to about 40 minutes, book your pickup around 3 hours before departure. That covers the drive, a buffer and roughly two hours at the airport.
