Unlike the Dubai routes, this is a short ride within Abu Dhabi. The island combines quiet beach resorts with the museum quarter, so many guests arrive straight from a long-haul flight and want to be at their hotel quickly.

From the airport to Saadiyat in about half an hour

From the airport the car takes the E10 towards Yas Island and then the E12, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway. This road crosses Yas Island and Al Jubail Island, with mangroves on both sides, before reaching Saadiyat. There is no city-centre driving on the way, which keeps the time fairly predictable.

Traffic is usually light outside the weekday rush hours. The longest part is often the final approach to your resort, as several hotels have long private driveways.

Beach resorts and the Cultural District

Saadiyat Beach stretches along the northern shore, with large resorts set behind protected dunes. Many guests are couples and families looking for a calm beach holiday, and golfers come for the course near the beach.

The Cultural District on the western side holds Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena. Some hotels lie near the museums rather than on the beach, so check which part of the island your address is in.

The same E12 also leads to the theme parks on Yas Island, which you pass on the way from the airport. Many families combine the Saadiyat beach with a day trip there.

Practical notes for Saadiyat

Golf and beach gear
Declare golf bags or other equipment when booking. A minivan is the safe choice for two golfers with clubs and suitcases.
Villas and residences
Saadiyat has gated villa communities and residences. Give the community name and villa number, as the driver may need it at the gate.
Combining with Dubai
Some travellers spend a few nights on Saadiyat and then move on to Dubai. That later drive is longer than the trip from AUH to the Dubai Marina, because Saadiyat lies further west.
