TIA sits at Rinas, north-west of Tirana, and is the main international gateway to Albania. You book a private car or minivan with a local transfer company, see the full price before you confirm, and your driver meets you in the arrivals area with a name sign.

Transfers from this airport

Arriving at Tirana Airport

Tirana Airport is compact, so the walk from baggage reclaim to the arrivals hall is short. Your driver waits there with a sign showing your name. The exact meeting point is confirmed by the local provider by phone or WhatsApp, so keep your phone switched on after landing and share your flight number when you book.

If your flight is delayed, the provider follows the new arrival time. The price you agreed does not change because of a late landing or traffic on the way.

Where travellers go from TIA

Tirana city centre
Only 21 km away, but city traffic means the ride usually takes about 49–62 minutes. Hotels cluster around Skanderbeg Square and the Blloku district.
Durrës and Golem
The closest stretch of Adriatic coast. Durrës is a port city with long beach hotels to the south-east, and Golem is a resort strip a little further along the bay.
Vlorë and the south
About two to two and a half hours south via Fier. Vlorë has a seafront promenade and is the starting point for the coast road towards the Albanian Riviera.
Shkodër and the north
Around an hour and a half north, near Lake Shkodër. Many travellers continue from here to the Albanian Alps or the Koman Lake ferry.
Krujë
The nearest destination from the airport, a historic hill town with a castle and an old bazaar on the slopes above the plain.
Budva, Montenegro
A cross-border transfer of roughly three and a half to four hours, passing Shkodër and the Montenegrin coast. Passports or ID are needed for the border.

How long are the drives from Tirana Airport?

Drive times from TIA vary more than the distances suggest. Krujë is about 32–40 minutes away and Durrës about 36–45 minutes, thanks to the motorway towards the coast. Tirana, although closer than Durrës, often takes longer because the last kilometres run through congested suburban roads and city streets.

Golem takes about an hour, Shkodër around 88–110 minutes and Vlorë roughly 122–153 minutes. Budva is the longest trip at about 202–253 minutes, and the border queue can add time in summer.

Choosing a vehicle

A standard private car suits one to three passengers with normal luggage. Families, groups of friends and anyone carrying beach gear, pushchairs or several large suitcases are usually more comfortable in a minivan for up to about seven people. Larger vehicles can be requested for groups.

Child seats can be requested when you book. Bicycles, diving equipment, surfboards or other sports gear should be declared at booking so the right vehicle is sent. The ride is private: no shared shuttle and no stops at other hotels.

When Albania is busiest

The main travel season runs from May to September, with July and August the busiest months on the coast. Many arrivals come from Italy, Germany, the UK, Poland and Kosovo, and diaspora families travel home in large numbers during the summer holidays. Booking ahead in these months gives you a wider choice of vehicles.

Tirana and Krujë work well all year as city and culture trips. The beach towns are quieter outside summer, and some seasonal hotels close in winter.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Tirana Airport from the city centre?

The centre is about 21 km from TIA. Because of traffic on the approach roads and in the city, the drive usually takes around 49–62 minutes rather than the 20–25 minutes the distance might suggest.

Will my driver wait if my flight is late?

Yes. Share your flight number when you book so the local provider can follow your arrival. The agreed price stays the same if the flight is delayed.

Can I go directly from Tirana Airport to Montenegro?

Yes, a private transfer to Budva is possible. Everyone in the car needs a valid passport or ID card accepted at the border, and waiting times at the crossing vary, especially in summer.

How do I pay for the transfer?

You pay through HotelTaxi when booking online or via WhatsApp. The total price is shown before you confirm, so there is nothing to negotiate with the driver on arrival.

Is Durrës or Tirana closer to the airport in time?

In practice Durrës is often quicker to reach, around 36–45 minutes on the motorway, while Tirana usually takes 49–62 minutes because of city traffic.
