What the drive to Praia de Chaves looks like
From the terminal the road passes Rabil, crosses the wide dry riverbed beside the village and turns towards the coast. Within minutes the landscape opens into low dunes, and the resort complexes appear on their own between the sand and the sea.
There is no town to drive through and very little traffic. The last stretch is an access road to your resort, where the driver drops you at the entrance or reception.
Chaves, Rabil and Lacacão: how they differ

- A long white beach backed by dunes, with large all-inclusive resorts and the lone chimney of an old brick and ceramics factory. Most guests on this route stay here.
- Rabil
- Boa Vista's first capital, right beside the airport, with a church, a ceramics school using local red clay and a few simple guesthouses. A choice for village life rather than a resort.

- The south-west coast beyond Chaves, where resorts stand far from any village. Part of the way runs on simpler roads, so allow more time than for Chaves.
