Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport transfer

This page explains how a private transfer from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) works and what the drive looks like to Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj and the ski resort of Kranjska Gora. HotelTaxi books your ride with a local transfer company that knows the airport, and the total price is shown and agreed before you book.

The airport is not in Ljubljana itself. It lies at Brnik, north of the capital, on the edge of the Gorenjska region and close to the Julian Alps. That makes it a convenient gateway to the lakes and mountains: none of the three destinations on this page requires driving through the city.

Transfers from this airport

Arriving at Ljubljana Airport

LJU is a compact airport, so the walk from the baggage hall to the arrivals area is short. Your driver waits for you at the meeting point in arrivals with a name sign.

Add your flight number when you book. The local provider can then follow the actual landing time, and the agreed price stays the same if your flight is delayed. The exact meeting arrangements are confirmed directly between the provider and you by phone or WhatsApp before or on arrival.

The ride is private: no shared shuttle and no stops at other hotels.

Popular transfers from LJU

Bled
37 km, usually 29–37 minutes. The lake with the island church and the castle on its cliff, visited all year round. Indicative price around €55–75 by car.
Kranjska Gora
67 km, usually 52–65 minutes. Slovenia’s best-known ski resort in the Upper Sava Valley, close to the Italian and Austrian borders. Around €85–110 by car.
Bohinj (Ribčev Laz)
63 km, usually 56–70 minutes. A larger, quieter lake inside Triglav National Park, with the Vogel ski area above it. Around €80–105 by car.

How the drives into the Julian Alps work

From Brnik, transfers to all three destinations join the Gorenjska motorway heading north-west towards Jesenice and the Karawanks. Bled is the closest, a short drive after leaving the motorway. Bohinj continues past Bled and up the valley of the Sava Bohinjka river, which is why it takes a little longer than the distance suggests. Kranjska Gora follows the motorway further before turning into the Upper Sava Valley.

So the spread is roughly half an hour to Bled and about an hour to Bohinj or Kranjska Gora. Road charges on the way are handled by the provider, and the offer shows the total price, so you do not need to arrange anything yourself.

Winter and summer seasons

From December to March, many arrivals are skiers heading to Kranjska Gora or to the Vogel ski area above Lake Bohinj. Snow can fall in the valleys during this period, and providers drive with winter equipment appropriate to the conditions. Allow a little extra time in heavy snowfall.

Bled is busy all year. In winter it suits a quiet lake break or a base for day trips to the slopes, and in summer it fills with walkers, cyclists and families. Bohinj and Kranjska Gora are also popular in summer for hiking in Triglav National Park.

Choosing the right vehicle

Private car
For 1–3 passengers with normal luggage. A good fit for couples heading to a lake hotel in Bled or Bohinj.
Minivan
For families and groups of up to about seven, or smaller groups with bulky luggage. The usual choice for ski trips.
Ski equipment and child seats
Declare skis, snowboards or boot bags when you book so the right vehicle is sent. Child seats can be requested at the same time.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Ljubljana Airport from Lake Bled?

The drive is 37 km and usually takes 29–37 minutes. The airport at Brnik is north of Ljubljana, so you head straight towards Gorenjska without crossing the city.

Is Ljubljana Airport in the city of Ljubljana?

No. It is at Brnik, north of the capital. For holidays in Bled, Bohinj or Kranjska Gora this is an advantage, because the airport is already on the side of the city that faces the Julian Alps.

Do I need a motorway vignette for the transfer?

No. Road charges are handled by the provider, and the offer you receive shows the total price. You only pay the agreed amount through HotelTaxi.

Can I bring skis and snowboards?

Yes, but declare them when you book, together with the number of bags. The provider then sends a vehicle with enough space, often a minivan for groups with ski equipment.

What happens if my flight to Ljubljana is delayed?

If you added your flight number, the provider follows the actual landing time. The agreed price does not change because of a delay or traffic.

Which destination is best outside the ski season?

Bled is visited all year and is the shortest transfer. Bohinj is quieter and greener, while Kranjska Gora is a base for summer hiking near the borders with Italy and Austria.
